October 14, 2012

NEW ORLEANS –The last few days marked the annual "pre-national" weekend, a grouping of the final major competitions in NCAA Division I cross country before conference championships take shape in a couple of weeks. There were several changes to the regional rankings according to the committee members of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Among the reshuffles, Wisconsin’s men’s team was dethroned by Michigan atop the Great Lakes region rankings. Colorado’s men’s squad was named the new No. 1 team in the Mountain region while Stanford’s men took over as head of the West. In women’s rankings, Duke is the new No. 1 in the Southeast and Stanford’s squad stands tall in the West.

PDF: Regional Rankings Summary | Week-by-Week

Current No. 1 teams by region as selected by regional representatives: Michigan (Great Lakes), Princeton (Mid-Atlantic), Oklahoma State (Midwest), Colorado (Mountain), Iona (Northeast), Florida State (South), Texas (South Central), Eastern Kentucky (Southeast), Stanford (West). Top women’s teams by region: Michigan (Great Lakes), Georgetown (Mid-Atlantic), Iowa State (Midwest), Weber State (Mountain), Cornell (Northeast), Florida State (South), Arkansas (South Central), Duke (Southeast), Stanford (West).

New to the regional rankings for the first time this year: MEN – Dayton (Great Lakes), Northern Iowa (Midwest), Eastern Illinois (Midwest), Florida A&M (South), South Alabama (South), and North Texas (South Central).

NCAA Division I Regional Championships will be held on Friday, November 9. NCAA DI Regional Championships Central.

USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
